The Indian Cricket Team faced Hong Kong in their second game of the Asia Cup 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side displayed a sensational all-round performance and defeated the opposition by 40 runs to book their place in the Super 4s stage of the tournament, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s great innings.

One of the main reasons behind India’s staggering win over Hong Kong was Suryakumar Yadav. The right-hander played a sensational knock of unbeaten 68 runs in just 26 balls and helped his side post a target of around 200 runs.

On a pitch where almost every Indian batter struggled with his timing at least once, Suryakumar seemed to be batting on a different surface. He came to bat when India was India 94/2 at the end of the 13th over.

The Mumbaikar went after the bowlers right from the first ball and smashed them all over the park. His innings changed the tempo of the Indian innings and he provided his team with much-needed momentum.

Suryakumar smashed 26 runs in the final over of the innings with 24 runs coming through sixes. He batted with a strike rate of 261.4 and stitched an unbeaten 98 runs partnership with Virat Kohli, who scored 59.

After the match, the former Indian skipper interviewed him and asked him whether he was looking to hit six sixes in the final over and become the second Indian after Yuvraj Singh to achieve the feat.

Reacting to Kohli’s remark, Suryakumar cheekily said that he wanted Yuvraj Singh to hold the record. He said: “I was trying my best (to hit six sixes in an over) but let’s not get past Yuvi pa (laugh).”

“I needed you there,” Suryakumar Yadav on his partnership with Virat Kohli

Suryakumar and Kohli’s unbeaten 98-run partnership was the main reason behind India posting a big total on the board. While Kohli played the anchor’s role, the Mumbai Indians batter unleashed himself and made a mockery of Hong Kong bowlers.

He also talked about how Kohli’s presence was important for him as he knew that had the 33-year-old stayed there, it would help him to bat 20 overs.

“I needed you there (smiles) because I know once you play 30-35 balls you can play your next 10 balls at a strike rate of 200-250. So it was important for you to stay there because it would help me bat till 20 (overs),” Suryakumar Yadav said.
