The Royal Challengers Bangalore have appointed former South African captain Faf du Plessis as their skipper ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The South African star joined the Bangalore-based franchise at the IPL 2022 Auction. Faf du Plessis is all set to take over the reins of the team from Virat Kohli.
The Bangalore-based IPL franchise played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli for multiple seasons before he stepped down as the skipper. Kohli led the team to the final in 2016 and the playoffs in multiple seasons, but the franchise could not end their championship drought.
Kohli will now play under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis for the first time in his career. Reacting to the huge announcement made by the Bangalore-based franchise at the RCB Unbox event, Virat said:
“Faf is the new captain and I couldn’t be happier to pass on the baton to a good friend, someone that I’ve known well over the years. We’ve been in touch for a few years now. We get along very well.”
“I am really excited to play under Faf Du Plessis, can’t wait to have the partnership along with him for the RCB fans,” he added.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis will aim to end the championship drought of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team
The duo of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis has scored heaps of runs in the IPL during the past seasons for their franchises. While Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the tournament’s history, du Plessis was unstoppable when playing for the Chennai Super Kings.
The conditions in Mumbai and Pune will assist the batters, so both Kohli and du Plessis will be keen to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore win their first-ever title. The Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to open their campaign against Mayank Agarwal’s Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.
