Here’s Why Evin Lewis And Shimron Hetmyer Were Not Picked For India T20I Series

The West Indies cricket team will soon tour India for six matches in the white-ball formats. They will play a three-match T20I series and a three-match ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the home team. Interestingly, they have left out left-handed batters Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer from the squad.

Quite a few fans were left confused because both Evin Lewis and Hetmyer have an excellent record against the Indian cricket team. However, now it has been learnt that Lewis is recovering from COVID-19, whereas Hetmyer is having fitness issues, which is why both players will miss the upcoming series against the Indian cricket team.

Thus, neither of the two players will tour with the West Indies squad. Here is the 16-man squad announced by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the series against India: Kieron Pollard (Captain), Nicholas Pooran (Vice-Captain), Brandon King, Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Dominic Drakes, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein and Hayden Walsh Jr.

Fans must note that the West Indies cricket team has returned to form now. They managed only one win in five matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, but they recently defeated the England cricket team 3-2 in a home T20I series.

Cricket West Indies chief said some people in the Caribbean want Kieron Pollard gone

While the team has performed well at home, it seems not everything is right in the West Indies team. According to the chief of the Cricket West Indies, some people in the Caribbean want the duo of captain Kieron Pollard and coach Phil Simmons gone for non-cricketing reasons.

“Phil and Pollard have a few, but loud, critics who want them gone for non-cricket reasons,” Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt told Cricbuzz

Although the duo of Pollard and Simmons have some loud critics, CWI chief affirmed that they have no plans of changing the captain or the coach just before the commencement of a very important tour. It is an important series for the West Indies cricket team because the 30 crucial points of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League will be on the line.
