The ICC World Test Championship 2023 is keeping every cricket lover on its toes. Things are getting intense as we approach the summit clash of the championship. The final to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval with a reserve day in place (12 June). With just a few series left in the cycle, we are still unsure of who will be the two teams that will play the summit clash. Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India are in contention. The current situation states that India and Australia will be the two finalists but one cannot predict the game of cricket as there’s still a chance for Sri Lanka as well to qualify.

Qualification scenario for Sri Lanka for World Test Championship Final

India’s win against Australia in the first two Tests of the series have opened as well as hampered the doors for Sri Lanka to qualify for the World Test Championship Final. Although the chance seems very narrow but they can turn the tables around and reach the final.

Sri Lanka are currently placed third on the points table with win percentage of 53.33. They have won 5 games and lost 4 matches in this edition of the World Test Championship. The remaining two games will be extremely crucial for their chances.

For Sri Lanka to qualify, they need to win both upcoming games against New Zealand. If they managed to whitewash the Kiwis, their chances would be very certain as their win percentage will boost to 61.11.

They would also want some results to go in their favour as well. For Sri Lanka to stand a chance for the final, they would want India to win the remaining games against Australia or lose both of them. In other words, the series between India and Australia should end 4-0, 2-0, 2-1, or 2-2 in India’s favour for Sri Lanka to have a chance of qualification.

In simple words, for Sri Lanka to qualify, they need to win the Test series against New Zealand by the margin of 2-0 and then India should either win or lose both the matches against Australia. If this happens they will be through and will play the final in June this year.
