The Australian cricket team played the Indore Test against India with a lot of intent. Steve Smith who led the team from the front in Pat Cummins’ absence was quite excellent as a captain throughout the game.
Steve Smith made brilliant field placements and rotated the bowlers at the right time to put the team in a commanding position in both innings of the Test match.
Team India fell short of ideas and eventually fell prey to Australian spinners in both innings. While India were bowled out for 109 runs in the first innings, Australia responded with 197 runs and had a lead of 88 runs.
As far as the second is concerned, the Indian batters failed miserably as they could score just 163 runs, thus setting up a target of 76 for the visitors. Steve Smith and Co won the third Test by nine wickets.
Here is how Sri Lanka can qualify for WTC Final
After Australia braved the challenges and won the third Test against India, they qualified for the ICC World Test Championship final by booking their spot, which also means that there is only one spot remaining.
India would have qualified for the WTC final had they won this game but that wasn’t meant to be. However, there is still a mathematical chance for Sri Lanka to qualify for the WTC final.
If Australia beat India in the final Test, then the series will end in a 2-2. In such a case, Sri Lanka can qualify for the WTC final provided that they beat New Zealand by 2-0.
Needless to say, Sri Lanka will have to inflict a 2-0 whitewash on the Kiwis that too in away conditions, which is quite a tough scenario. In case, the series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand ends in a 1-0 or 1-1 tie, then Sri Lanka will not qualify for the WTC final.
More importantly, India’s qualification for the WTC final will mainly rely on the result of Sri Lanka vs New Zealand series. However, if India beat Australia in the fourth Test, then India will straightaway qualify for the final.
