MS Dhoni has been one of the best performers for CSK in IPL 2022 so far. The Chennai Super Kings entered the competition as defending champions but they have lost four matches on a trot and are in the bottom half of the Indian Premier League 2022 points table. Most of the star players of the Chennai-based franchise have let the fans down with their performances in the new season.
Last year, the Chennai Super Kings had the best opening pair of the season. The top two names in the race to the Orange Cap, namely Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad, opened the innings for the Chennai Super Kings team in IPL 2021. However, this year, the opening pair does not look settled.
Captain Ravindra Jadeja decided to use Gaikwad and debutant Devon Conway as the opening batters in the first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Conway could not impress much on his debut. Soon after, Chennai Super Kings changed their opening pair to Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa.
While Uthappa scored a fifty against the Lucknow Super Giants, Gaikwad is yet to regain his form in IPL 2022. He has managed only one score in double digits so far. So former Chennai Super Kings batter Parthiv Patel wants the team management to think out of the box now.

Since MS Dhoni has done well in IPL 2022, Parthiv wants him to open the innings for CSK. Here’s what he said during a discussion on Cricbuzz:
“Dhoni started his career as an opener, why not take the role in the fag-end of his career? He is batting at No.7 now and plays hardly 10-15 balls. So why not Dhoni bat up in the order at No.3 or maybe at 4 or open? Just a figure like MS Dhoni, even if he stays there for 14-15 overs you never know.”
