Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been truly magnificent as a batsman without a shadow of any doubt and his performances across all three formats of the game serve as a testament to this fact.
The right-handed batsman is currently leading his team from the front for the first of the two-match Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team. The Test series opener is currently taking place at National Stadium, Karachi.
Earlier, Babar Azam created an unwanted record as a captain in Test cricket as he became the first captain in the history of Pakistan cricket to have suffered a whitewash at home.
Besides that, he was also on the receiving end of trolls and criticism after he became the first captain in the history of Pakistan cricket to lose four Tests in a row at home.
Babar Azam scored his 9th Test century in the first Test against New Zealand
However, there is no denying that he has been leading the batting attack by example, more often than not. He made his presence count at the crease after he went on to score his 9th century in the longest format of the game.
He accomplished the feat during the first Test match against the New Zealand cricket team. When Pakistan were reeling at 48 for the loss of three wickets, Babar Azam steadied the ship by playing a smart brand of cricket.
He added a 62-run stand alongside Saud Shakeel before the latter departed for 22 runs. However, Babar Azam grew from strength to strength in the process as he went on to score his 9th Test century.
Babar Azam found a great deal of support in the form of Sarfaraz Ahmed as the duo added a century-plus stand for the fifth wicket. Babar Azam constructed his innings with the help of 11 fours and a six whereas Sarfaraz scored 43 runs at the time of writing this article.
Dream year for Babar Azam as a batsman in Tests but a nightmare as a captain!
