Ravindra Jadeja became the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings team yesterday afternoon. The Chennai-based franchise confirmed the massive news with a release on their official website. Jadeja will make his captaincy debut in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
MS Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to their fourth championship last year in Dubai. However, he has decided to step down as the captain because the CSK franchise will need a new captain whenever Dhoni retires from the IPL.
Had Ravindra Jadeja made his captaincy debut without MS Dhoni, he may have been under enormous pressure. However, the all-rounder is not so worried ahead of his first game as CSK captain in IPL 2022 because he has MS Dhoni by his side.
The Chennai Super Kings posted a video of a brief chat with Ravindra Jadeja on Twitter yesterday. Jadeja reacted to his captaincy debut and said that he is feeling good.
Whatever questions I have to ask, I will definitely go to him: Ravindra Jadeja on MS Dhoni ahead of captaincy debut
In the past, when Virat Kohli took over the reins of the Indian cricket team from MS Dhoni, he would often go to the wicket-keeper batter for suggestions during the game. Ravindra Jadeja is aiming to do the same thing as he said:
“I don’t need to worry too much because he is here. Whatever questions I have to ask, I will definitely go to him. He’ll be my go-to person. He was and still is today. So I am not worried too much. Thanks for all wishes and love. Keep supporting us.”
Ravindra Jadeja will come out for the toss for the first time in his Indian Premier League career tomorrow against the Kolkata Knight Riders. It will be interesting to see if CSK emerges victorious in Jadeja’s first game as IPL captain.
