The RCB wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who has made a comeback to the Indian cricket team for the T20I series against South Africa after being on the sidelines for three years, has credited the national captain Rohit Sharma and the head coach Rahul Dravid for showing belief in him despite having plenty of options in front of them in the form of young players.

Dinesh Karthik has had an incredible IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this year and among all the batsmen who have faced 100 or more than 100 balls in the tournament, he has got the highest strike rate, which is no mean feat because almost all the big hitters in the world are playing in the IPL.

Karthik talked to the RCB social media channels this morning and apart from crediting the national captain and the head coach, he also credited the RCB management, as they gave him absolute clarity right at the start of this IPL that he had to do the finishing job for the team and there was a particular brand of cricket they were expecting from him.

Dinesh Karthik has batted at no. 7 for RCB in most games of IPL 2022

Dinesh Karthik, in most of the league games, was slotted at no. 7 even if RCB lost early wickets and needed an experienced batsman to arrest the collapse.

The only reason Karthik was held back was that RCB management wanted big shots from him against the fast bowlers in the latter stages of the innings and not strike rotation against spinners in the middle phase. They gave Karthik a role that suited his strength and he did the job perfectly.

Now, for the national team as well, Karthik is expected to be given a similar kind of role and the kind of form he is carrying right now, if he carries it for a few more months, he can be absolutely vital for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
