The Sunrisers Hyderabad had a forgettable IPL season last year, where they finished last for the first time ever. Since the Orange Army could not impress much in IPL 2021, the team owners decided to revamp the squad and coaching staff. One of the new players they signed at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction was Glenn Phillips.
He is a wicket-keeper batter from New Zealand who is famous for his ability to smash sixes. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will start their IPL 2022 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. However, the team’s star player Glenn Phillips has not reached India yet.
In a recent Instagram story, the Sunrisers Hyderabad player revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of IPL 2022. So he is in New Zealand right now and will only join the squad once he recovers.
“For those who keep asking – I am stuck in New Zealand due to a positive PCR travel test. I will be joining SRH as soon as I can,” he wrote.Â

“Being in the gym has had a lot to do with it six-hitting,” says Glenn Phillips
One of the most important skills for a batter in T20 cricket is the ability to hit sixes. Glenn Phillips has worked very hard to develop this skill. In a virtual interaction, Phillips explained his workout routine and said:
“Being in the gym has had a lot to do with it [six-hitting]. I’ve definitely put on some weight and started throwing a bit more tin around. At one stage I was sort of doing 800 [press-ups] a day over three sets. I’d do a set of 300, then 300, and 200.”
Phillips’ presence will give a huge boost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. He knows how to clear the boundaries and can also keep the wickets for the team. SRH fans will hope that he joins the squad soon.
