Not long ago, former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad made the headlines after he launched a scathing attack on the Board of Control for Cricket in India for its reluctance to come to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup 2023 tourney.
Although Pakistan have acquired the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2023 tournament, it is highly unlikely that the tournament might take place there because India have made their stance clear.
The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council conceded that India will not fly all the way to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup tournament owing to the escalating tension between the two nations.
Ravichandran Ashwin opens up on the possibility of hosting the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka
Meanwhile, India’s veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin reckons that hosting the Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka might be a good idea in the first place. The upcoming edition of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament will be held in the September window.
The veteran off-spinner added that he will be pleased if the Asia Cup tournament is shifted to Sri Lanka. He also highlighted that many tournaments have already taken place in Dubai.
Ravi Ashwin feels that hosting the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka might be a good thing. It will be quite interesting to see which team will defy the challenges and win the Asia Cup title this time around.
The last time when the Asia Cup tournament took place in the Gulf nation, Sri Lanka and Pakistan made it to the finals of the competition. Team India failed to bring the best out of themselves in the Asia Cup tournament held in Dubai last year.
They were knocked out of the tournament after their defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the final showdown to win their sixth Asia Cup title.

Srilanka is the best bet and they deserve one of the ACC or ICC events, 6 good stadiums to play…2 in Colombo, pallekele, dambulla and hambantota and Galle should be good enough to host

Its good for SL if that can happen.
Dubai doesn’t need to boost its economy, but SL & Pak does.— Vikram (@vikramuda) February 6, 2023

Dubai has successfully cashed in from the conflict between India and Pakistan, we have normalised playing in Dubai, and on the other hand small nations like Sri lanka do not get much icc tournaments.
