
Indian youngster Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books after he scored a double century against the New Zealand cricket team in the first ODI at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
The right-handed batter who opened the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the first ODI added a 60-run stand for the first wicket before the skipper departed for 34 runs in the passage of play.
Despite Rohit’s departure, Shubman Gill grew from strength to strength in his batting approach. In the process, he went on to score the third ODI century of his cricketing career.
Shubman Gill scored his maiden ODI double century
The 23-year-old took New Zealand’s bowling attack to the cleaners by playing a fearless brand of cricket. After scoring a century, he was looking so flawless in his approach.
He scored 208 off 149 balls with the help of 19 boundaries and 9 sixes to his name at a strike rate of 139.60. Gill will forever remember this special knock because this is his maiden ODI century.
Not long ago, India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan became the fastest batsman to smash a double century where he achieved the feat against Bangladesh in the third ODI in Chattogram.
Now, Shubman Gill let his willow do the talking in the first ODI against New Zealand. It is worth mentioning here that the selectors have been backing the youngsters and grooming them for the futuristic ICC events.
Indian cricket’s future is in safe hands now. Shubman Gill was dismissed by Henry Shipley in the second ball of the 50th over. Meanwhile, Team India finished the innings with 349/8 in their quota of 50 overs.
