Delhi Capitals are one of the few teams who are yet to win the title since the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. They made it to the finals of the competition on only one occasion in the IPL 2020 season.

However, they surrendered at the hands of Mumbai Indians in the final showdown. They failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season as they ended up in fifth place.

Delhi Capitals won seven games and lost as many games in the league stage. It will be quite interesting to see how they go about their business in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Delhi Capitals’ regular skipper, Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the entire season of the IPL 2023. Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Operations, Sourav Ganguly confirmed the statement earlier.

David Warner set to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 as per reports

As per the latest reports, David Warner is set to lead Delhi Capitals in the forthcoming season of the IPL. It is said that Axar Patel will be servicing as Warner’s deputy for the Delhi-based franchise.

A member of the ownership group of Delhi Capitals, on the condition of anonymity, told that David Warner will be their captain and Axar Patel will be the vice-captain, according to reports in Cricbuzz.

David Warner possesses a truckload of leadership experience in the IPL. He already served as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise earlier. Under his captaincy, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the maiden title in the IPL 2016 season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the first title by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the high-voltage encounter. David Warner was stripped of SRH captaincy in the first half of the IPL 2021 season before he was also axed from the team.

The Sunrisers didn’t retain him in the subsequent season. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals purchased Warner for INR 6.5 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
