Mumbai Indians battled Delhi Capitals in the second match of IPL 2022. DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first at Brabourne Stadium. MI were dominant for most part of the match, but an expensive 18th over from new bowler Daniel Sams cost them the match.

Delhi Capitals were down to 104/6 in a run chase of 178 runs. Looking at the way Mumbai Indians bowled in the first phase of DC’s innings, it seemed like they would win easily. But Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel added 75 runs for the seventh wicket and helped DC open their account in the IPL 2022 points table.

Yadav and Patel have not got enough opportunities to showcase their talent in the IPL before. Earlier today, they received a chance to prove themselves as match-winners and they grabbed it with both hands. Yadav remained not out on 48 runs off 38 balls, while his partner Patel aggregated 38 runs off just 17 deliveries.

Daniel Sams got the responsibility to bowl the 18th over when Delhi Capitals needed 28 runs to win. Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav scored 24 runs off his over and brought the equation down to four runs off 12 balls. Patel then smashed a four down the leg-side off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling to guide DC home.

“Felt it was a good total on the board, at the beginning we didn’t feel like we would get to 170+ but we batted really well throughout. Runs on the board but we didn’t bowl per our plans we had for the opposition,” Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma said after the match.

Mumbai Indians were not happy with the bowling performance of Daniel Sams

The over from Daniel Sams changed the momentum of the match. After the game ended, some fans blamed him on Instagram with some negative comments. A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the comments.
