Sunrisers Hyderabad led by Aiden Markram are currently ninth on the IPL 2023 points table. Having played nine games so far, they managed to win only three games and lost the rest of the six games.

They had an opportunity to beat Kolkata Knight Riders at home last night but they eventually ended up complicating themselves in the first place. They lost to KKR by 5 runs at home.

However, in IPL anything is possible and the game can tilt towards any team, at any situation. Sunrisers Hyderabad can still qualify for the playoffs and they still have a chance if the scenarios go in their favour.

Qualifications scenario of SRH in IPL 2023

Sunrisers Hyderabad have collected just six points this season and have five more games in hand. In the best-case scenario for SRH, they will have to win the remaining five games, which means that they will end up at 16 points (maximum).

SRH will play against Rajasthan Royals (away), Lucknow Super Giants (home), Gujarat Titans (away), Royal Challengers Bangalore (home) and Mumbai Indians (away).

SRH can qualify for the playoffs if the six other teams manage to win seven or lesser games this season. If SRH manages to win all their remaining five games of the league stage, then it is quite obvious that the other teams including RR, LSG, GT, RCB and MI will lose at least one match in the group stage.

Going by this scenario, it will be better if LSG or CSK, PBKS, RCB, MI, KKR and DC manages to win a maximum of seven matches this season.

#1. Delhi Capitals should lose at least one match in the remainder of the league stage this season. So, let’s assume that CSK will beat DC, which seems to be a likely scenario, then let’s assume DC goes on beat CSK, RCB and PBKS (twice) in the remainder of the season.

It will lead to more defeats for CSK, RCB and PBKS. In this case, DC will end up with only seven wins in IPL 2023, meaning that they will get eliminated. If Punjab Kings loses two games to DC then, Punjab Kings also gets knocked out with only 7 wins in IPL 2023.

#2. Meanwhile, KKR must lose one more match to either of the teams (PBKS, RR, CSK and LSG). So, it will be much better if KKR goes on to beat CSK in the next game since CSK will be eliminated from playoffs race as CSK might lose one game to DC and one more defeat to KKR will make sure they stand at 15 points and get knocked out. KKR should lose one more game to either PBKS, RR or LSG to get knocked out from IPL 2023 playoffs race with 7 or lesser wins.

Likely scenarios

According to the above scenarios, SRH would beat Mumbai Indians already and apart from that, MI must lose two more matches to either CSK, RCB, GT and LSG.

Looking at the above scenario both CSK and GT has no criteria to lose any matches, thus it will be better if both CSK and GT beat MI, and MI goes on to beat LSG and RCB in their remaining matches.

This will mean that Mumbai Indians will end with 7 wins and get eliminated.

On the other hand, RCB will lose three matches to SRH, DC and MI going by these scenarios. Thus, RCB will end at seven wins and would be out of the playoffs race.

As a result, six teams would get eliminated if these scenario goes in favour of SRH and they will end up with 16 points. This will help them qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.
