Kolkata Knight Riders hogged the limelight today after they signed England international Jason Roy for INR 2.8 crore for the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League.
For the record, Jason Roy opted out of the IPL 2022 season owing to bio-bubble fatigue. He was earlier purchased by Gujarat Titans for his base price of INR 2 crore at the IPL 2022 mega-auction in Bengaluru.
However, the experienced player is finally back to feature in the IPL, this time for Kolkata Knight Riders. The two-time IPL champions will largely benefit from the batsman’s services for the rest of the season.
KKR sign Jason Roy for IPL 2023
The Knight Riders have handed themselves a massive boost to strengthen their strike force after they roped in Jason Roy. He hasn’t played too many games in the Indian Premier League.
Overall, he has featured in 13 games wherein he scored 329 runs at a batting average of 29.9 and a strike rate of 129 including two half-centuries. He registered his personal best score of 91*.
It will be quite interesting to see how Jason Roy will apply himself in challenging situations for KKR in the sixteenth edition of the IPL. He boasts pretty decent statistics in Twenty20 Internationals.
Jason Roy played as many as 64 Twenty20 Internationals for the England national cricket team. He has scored 1522 runs at a superb batting strike rate of 137.6 including eight half-centuries.
The 32-year-old South Africa-born cricketer registered his personal best score of 78. Having a swashbuckling opener like him in the squad is an added advantage to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Meanwhile, KKR failed to bring the best out of themselves as a team while playing against Punjab Kings in their first encounter. Punjab Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets – DLS Method and opened their account with a win. On the other hand, KKR will be looking forward to doing well against RCB at Eden Gardens on March 6, Thursday.
Did we need another overseas opener when our middle order is practically non existent…..Another season without knockouts it seems https://t.co/B9CZ1t1Kjk
