3 Players Who Could Replace Jason Roy in Gujarat Titans Team

In a disappointing development for the Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2022, their star England batter Jason Roy has withdrawn from IPL 2022 because of personal reasons. The right-handed batter was sold to the Titans at his base price of INR 2 crore.

Almost two weeks after the mega auction, Roy posted a note on social media, informing the fans that he will skip the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

“Hi everyone, especially the Gujarat Titans fans and squad. It’s with a heavy heart I have decided to pull out of this year’s tournament,” wrote Roy.

Now that the Gujarat Titans have lost their opening batter Jason Roy, they will be keen to sign a proper replacement for him. Here are the three players who could replace Roy in the GT team.

1. Paul Stirling

Ireland has produced many top-class cricketers, but none of them have been able to earn an IPL contract. Paul Stirling could become the first Irishman to receive an IPL deal if the Gujarat-based franchise sign him as Roy’s replacement. Stirling has a lot of T20 experience and also did well in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League.

2. Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn will be a like-for-like replacement for Jason Roy. It was surprising to see Lynn go unsold at the mega auction because he is a hard-hitter. Also, the conditions in Mumbai will suit him. It should not be a shock if GT rope him in as a replacement.

3. Dasun Shanaka could replace Jason Roy in Gujarat Titans

In case Gujarat decide against signing an opener, they can target Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka who was in incredible touch during the series against India. Shanaka can bat in the middle-order, allowing Matthew Wade or Wriddhiman Saha to open with Shubman Gill. Shanaka can also bowl medium pace whenever needed, thus giving more balance to the team.
