The Men in Blue are locking horns with the Black Caps in the first T20I, which is currently being played at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. Earlier, India’s T20I captain, Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first.
New Zealand national cricket team played pretty well against India. The visitors showed incredible resistance by scoring 176 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
The likes of Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway scored a half-century apiece. While Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten on 59 off 30 balls including three fours and five sixes, Devon Conway scored 52 off 35 balls including seven fours and a six.
Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers for India as he took two wickets to his name, giving away 22 runs in his quota of four overs at an impressive economy of 5.50.
India’s top-order batters fail miserably against New Zealand in the first T20I
Team India ran through a batting collapse as they failed to showcase stability on the pitch in the run-chase. The top-order batters namely Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tripathi departed for cheap scores.
The hosts were in a spot of bother after losing three wickets. Michael Bracewell got rid of Ishan Kishan for just four runs whereas Jacob Duffy dismissed Rahul Tripathi for a duck.
On the other side of the coin, Mitchell Santner dismissed Shubman Gill for just seven runs. Team India still need a mountain to climb in order to ace the run-chase and for that, they will have to rely on the middle-order batters.
India’s playing XI: Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (c), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh
New Zealand’s playing XI: Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Jacob Duffy, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner

But Shubhman is undroppable across formats as he is a prolific batter in ODIs.

Some of the younger batsmen who have come into the Indian team based on their ipl or u-19 performances need to play a few seasons of ranji trophy to tighten their technique against quality spin bowling. Shreyas, Surya and Sarfaraz are the best players of spin currently in India.

Ishan Kishan's performance in last 11 T20I is very very bad . He failed to give india good and flying start . He scored a 200 in ODI and on that basis he is playing T20. same with Gill .

Gill cant be opener in T20, he has to be #3 at best. Ishan Kishan doesnt have the variety of strokes and temperament, he is not fit to play … needs to mature. Rahul Tripathi is not there yet, he cant keep advancing down the track to score runs…. drop Ishan, bring Shaw in.
