Gujarat Titans have topped the points table in their first-ever IPL season. The Ahmedabad-based franchise won 10 of its 14 league matches and earned the number one spot on the points table. Playing under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, GT surprised the fans as they scored 20 points and booked a place in the Qualifier 1 match.
GT are two wins away from winning their first-ever IPL trophy. Almost every player on the team has done an excellent job. The Gujarat Titans team management has backed the players a lot, and it should not be a surprise if the team retains the following three players even though their performance was not the best in IPL 2022.
1. Gujarat Titans may give another chance to Abhinav Manohar
The Ahmedabad-based franchise made a huge investment in uncapped batter Abhinav Manohar’s services at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Manohar played eight matches for GT, scoring 108 runs at an average of 18. Since GT had other finishers who were doing well, they benched Manohar, but he should be retained for the next season because he has the talent to make it big.
2. Gujarat Titans might retain Matthew Wade
Veteran Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade may receive another IPL contract from the Gujarat Titans because of his vast experience. He is one of the best in the business behind the stumps. While he could not prove himself with the bat this year, Wade may get one last chance from GT in IPL 2023.
3. Darshan Nalkande
When Yash Dayal was unfit, the Ahmedabad-based franchise gave opportunities to Varun Aaron, Pradeep Sangwan, and Darshan Nalkande. Sangwan did a decent job, but the other two pacers could not impress much. While Aaron might be released due to the age factor, youngster Nalkande may receive another contract even though he scalped two wickets in two matches at an economy rate of 11.41 for the Ahmedabad-based franchise.
