After the first two marquee sets, the top batters will go under the hammer in the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. These are popular and established batters and you expect them to fetch good prices. However, seeing the current situation of how teams judge a player, a few cricketers might not find any takers. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players in Batters Set 1 who could go unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) David Warner
Having retired from international cricket now, Warner’s relevance has come down. Also, his form is a concern. Even in IPL 2024, he had to spend a lot of time on the bench.
Teams may look at younger options and with the focus on the next three years, it will be hard to rely on someone like Warner. The player will also have to blame himself for this situation. Had he worked on his form in the last two years, he could have had a chance to get a good contract. Players older than him like Faf du Plessis might still get a good bid at the auctions.
2) Aiden Markram
Aiden Markram is one of the players in Batters Set 1 who could go unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. The last few months have been terrible for the South African skipper. He has been in poor form and before that, in IPL 2024, he spent most of his time on the bench.
Without an X-Factor, teams will be hesitant to spend on a top-order overseas batter. Aiden Markram falls in this category and hence, it will not be a surprise if there are no takers for him in the upcoming auctions. A few months ago, many felt he could be a captaincy candidate. However, at the moment, he could struggle to find an IPL contract for the next season.
