Ricky Ponting preferred to have a lot of Australian cricketers in Delhi Capitals. It is not bad because it is always a good idea to have some players whom you know very well. Ponting could also have some personal projects to take up. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three struggling Australian cricketers in IPL whom Ricky Ponting could target for Punjab Kings.
1) Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson has mainly had issues with his fitness. At one time, he was seen as a future part of all three formats for Australia. However, it has been almost two years since he played in any format for the side.
In the IPL, Ponting hired him at a top fee for IPL 2024. However, injuries did not allow him to play freely. All said and done, Jhye is a fine cricketer who probably needs a run of games. He could get that at Punjab under Ricky.
2) Tim David
Tim David is one of the struggling Australian cricketers in IPL whom Ricky Ponting could target for Punjab Kings. While he started his Mumbai Indians career on a good note, he has not been able to sustain.
Even for Australia, Tim David has been inconsistent. If that continues, he could lose his spot and might have to start from scratch. In the IPL, he might need a side that offers better role-clarity and a coach who could get the best out of him. Ricky Ponting and Punjab Kings could be the answer for Tim.
3) Glenn Maxwell
It was a horrible tournament for Maxi in IPL 2024. The form was horrendous and it will be really hard for him to make a comeback.
That said, probably playing under lesser pressure could help him out. A third stint at PBKS could be in the offing. Ricky Ponting could get the best out of Maxi at No.4, as well.
