In every ICC event, we see a few players spending most of their time on the bench. The management would usually want to back a combination and hence, these players may not get a chance until something really goes bad. On that note, here, we take a look at the best benched XI of the 2024 T20 World Cup till now.
Openers: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Hazratullah Zazai
Hazratullah Zazai is one of the openers in this benched XI of the 2024 T20 World Cup till now. He came in as the replacement for Mujeeb Ur Rahman. For Jaiswal, the presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at the top meant that he will not get his chance. He is one of the Top 10 ranked T20I batters right now.
Middle-Order: Sanju Samson (WK), Ben Duckett, Shimron Hetmyer and Josh Inglis
It is a solid middle-order with Sanju Samson at No.3. He would also captain this squad. In Ben and Shimron, there are two splendid left-handed middle-order batters. Especially with Hetmyer, it is a surprise that he did not get a single game. Inglis has had to play backup to Matthew Wade in the tournament.
All-Rounders: Cameron Green
Cameron Green is the main all-rounder in this benched XI of the 2024 T20 World Cup till now. With Marcus Stoinis doing so well, Green was always going to find it hard to get a spot in the playing XI. He is a talented cricketer and would be a permanent part of the playing XI in the future.
Bowlers: Abrar Ahmed, Gerald Coetzee, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shamar Joseph
Abrar Ahmed and Chahal will form the spin attack for this playing XI. Coetzee was the last in the pecking order and hence, he did not get a game. Shamar Joseph is not very experienced in the T20 format. It was mainly due to his potential that he was picked. He also went without a game in the competition.
