Sandeep Lamichhane was recently sentenced to eight years of prison for a criminal case. This could be the abrupt end to his career. In the past, as well, some cricketers have been to jail. A few of them have made a strong comeback, as well. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of six active cricketers you might not know were once jailed.

1) Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is one of the active cricketers you might not know were once jailed. It was a brawl outside a nightclub that landed Stokes in jail for one night.

In recent years, though, Stokes has been controversy-free. While he has had fitness issues, when it comes to performances on the field as a player and a captain, he has been very efficient. His next big assignment will be the Indian Test series. It will be a challenge for the last few months of Bazball.

2) Amit Mishra

Indian leg-spinner was arrested a few years ago in Bengaluru for assaulting a woman in his hotel room. He was kept in jail for some time and later released.

Amit would represent Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. It was a surprise that the franchise decided to retain him despite his age. However, with the Impact Player rule in place, his presence would give an extra option to the side while also helping the younger cricketers. He could also break a few records in IPL 2024.

3) Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir is also one of the active cricketers you might not know were once jailed. It was his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal that landed Amir in jail.

He made a strong return and is still an active part of the game. Amir plays in the Pakistan Super League and other T20 leagues. A few years ago, he announced retirement from international cricket.

4) Kusal Mendis

Kusal Mendis was once arrested for a case related to an accident. There was a loss of life involved in this incident, as well.

Currently, he is the ODI skipper of the side. Across formats, he is also one of the most important batters for the side. He will look to do well in the coming years for his nation.

5) Danushka Gunathilaka

Danushka Gunathilaka is one of the active cricketers you might not know were once jailed. It was during the 2022 T20 World Cup that he was arrested in Australia for a case related to a woman. However, after around 11 months, he was released after being found not guilty.

While he is yet to make an active return, he is preparing for the same. It will be interesting to see his form once he makes a comeback.

6) Rubel Hossain

This happened during the 2015 ODI World Cup. It was an accusation by his girlfriend but later, this accusation was found to be false. Hence, Rubel was initially arrested and then released.

While Rubel is not playing for Bangladesh now, he is very active in domestic cricket. It needs to be seen if he can stitch a comeback.
