Getting dismissed for a duck is truly the worst feeling for a batsman. Whenever the batsman comes out to bat for the team, the first thing he does is try to get off the mark to avoid embarrassment.
On the other hand, the bowler tries his maximum best to mount pressure on the batsman right away and that’s when we can witness a competitive fighting spirit during the passage of play.
At times, we have seen batters crumbling in pressure situations as soon as they come out to bat. Now, in this article, let’s take a glimpse at three players who recorded 2 ducks in their first Test as captain.
1. Temba Bavuma
Cricket South Africa (CSA) appointed Temba Bavuma as their new Test captain very recently. Temba Bavuma replaced Dean Elgar as the Test captain ahead of their home WTC series against West Indies in 2023.
Unfortunately, Temba Bavuma failed to bring the best out of himself in both innings against the Caribbeans. He recorded scores of 0(1) and 0(2) in his first two innings as skipper at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
2. Habibul Bashar
For the record, Habibul Bashar was the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team during the playing days of his career. Needless to say, even he had a forgettable experience when he took charge as Test captain.
Habibul Bashar had a bad day at the office in his first two innings as Test captain as he recorded 0 and 0 in the first and second innings against the Zimbabwe cricket team in 2004.
3. Mark Taylor
Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor is one of the names on this list who recorded two ducks in his first Test as captain. For the record, he played his first Test as a captain against Pakistan in Karachi.
Despite starting his career on an unimpressive note, he went on to deliver the goods for the team with the bat. Having played 104 Tests, he scored 7525 runs at an average of 43.5 including 19 centuries and 50 fifties.
