Three years is a long time in the Indian Premier League. In fact, the fortunes of a player could change either way in just a season. In this regard, it is not shocking if a player retained before the last Mega Auction gets unsold in the next Mega Auction. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players retained before IPL 2022 Mega Auctions but could be unsold at IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal was retained by Punjab Kings before IPL 2022 and was even made as the skipper. However, Mayank could not do well and he was released later on.
At SRH, as well, his fortunes did not change. While he did get some games in IPL 2023, he lost his place to Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2024. Considering his age and his diminishing form, making a comeback in the IPL could be difficult. It will not be a surprise if he gets unsold.
2) Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali is one of the players retained before IPL 2022 Mega Auctions but could be unsold at IPL 2025 Auctions. He was retained by CSK along with the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Moeen did not hold a place in the playing XI in the recent seasons. His form has also dropped. He is 37 and may not be suitable for most teams. Therefore, there is a high chance that he will not find a bid at the auctions.
3) Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson’s credentials as a T20 player have dropped. Especially in the 2024 T20 World Cup, his team’s disastrous run put a dent in his popularity as a T20 player.
Kane also spent time on the bench in IPL 2024 while he was injured in IPL 2023. He is finding it hard to form a high-strike rate innings. This could affect his stocks in the upcoming auctions.
