Several reports claim that only five retentions will be allowed before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. If that happens, we could see a lot of top players forcibly getting released by their respective franchises. For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Matheesha Pathirana are non-negotiables. However, some of the other cricketers could get released. Here, we take a look at the list of three players CSK could release if only 5 retentions are allowed before IPL 2025.
1) Shivam Dube
In the second half of IPL 2024, Shivam Dube was not brilliant. Nevertheless, with the impact he had already had, Dube had ensured himself a retention spot.
However, if there are only five retentions allowed, CSK could consider releasing Shivam Dube. It will be really hard to get him back. However, considering the combination, the franchise will not have another choice.
2) MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is one of the players CSK could release if only 5 retentions are allowed before IPL 2025. In fact, all of CSK’s decisions could depend on whether MS Dhoni will want to continue or not.
If he decides to continue, he is surely getting retained. However, if he retires, CSK will have an easy decision to make for the other spots. Also, it could be a good time for MS Dhoni to leave the tournament. He is old and with a Mega Auction coming up, CSK should ideally look ahead. That said, MS Dhoni was still fit in IPL 2024 and he will definitely do well if he decides to play in one more campaign.
3) Ravindra Jadeja
Jaddu was not exactly brilliant in IPL 2024. He has also retired from the T20I format now. Therefore, depending on the other options, it won’t be a surprise if CSK consider releasing him.
Even Jaddu could look for a new challenge, probably that also involves captaincy. It could be a good time to take this decision at the end of his career.
