3 nations that have won a unique ODI World Cup trophy

It is a historic accomplishment for any team to win an ODI World Cup. On a side note, if that trophy existed only for that edition, it would make it more special. Because no other team would have such a trophy or will have it in the future. The Prudential Cup Trophy was won by India and West Indies. After three editions, in every edition, the sponsor changed. Hence, the design of the trophy also got changed. Since 1999, though, ICC decided to not have a sponsor. Hence, we have had the same kind of trophy since then. On that note, Here, we take a look at the list of three nations that have won a unique ODI World Cup trophy.

1) Australia – 1987 World Cup

Reliance Industries sponsored the trophy in 1987. Hence, Australia became the first team to win a trophy under this sponsorship.

It was a memorable event for the Aussies to win their first-ever World Cup. After that, they went on to add four more trophies.

2) Pakistan – 1992 World Cup

Pakistan is one of the nations that have won a unique ODI World Cup trophy. The Benson and Hedges Cup Trophy was one of the most uniquely designed trophies.

Imran Khan had retired from the game. However, he was later convinced to withdraw it. He came back and helped his side win the competition. It is the only ODI World Cup that Pakistan has won since then.

3) Sri Lanka – 1996 World Cup

For the next edition, the sponsor changed again. This time, it was the Wills World Cup Trophy. Not many expected Sri Lanka to win the edition.

However, it was pure teamwork that led them over the line. They came close to winning it again in 2007 and 2011. However, Australia and India stood in the way, respectively. It needs to be seen how they would perform in 2023.
