Punjab Kings were on a roll before meeting the Rajasthan Royals. The team had to suffer the first defeat of IPL 2025. It was a big defeat and the management will be keen to not repeat some of the mistakes. Here, we take a look at the list of three mistakes which led to Punjab Kings’ first loss of IPL 2025.

1) No designated fifth bowler

Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis were used as the fifth bowling option by PBKS. In this era of Impact Player, not having a specialist fifth bowler was a big miss.

Stoinis was expensive, and Maxi bowled just one over. In the first game, Vyshak bowled well and since then, he has not played for the franchise.

2) Glenn Maxwell at No.6 was one of the mistakes leading to Punjab Kings’ first loss of IPL 2025

Maxi is one of the best No.4 batters in the T20 format. Hence, it was a bit surprising to see him play at No.6 against RR.

Maxi does well against spin and hence, he should have come up in the order. With his experience, he could have helped the side handle the chase.

3) Shreyas Iyer going after the bowling despite an early wicket

PBKS lost a wicket in the first ball of the game. Shreyas did well to score two boundaries in the next few deliveries.

However, he went really hard and that led to his wicket. Against a bowler on fire and with a big target, being the main man, Shreyas must have been more careful.
