Chennai Super Kings won IPL 2023, exceeding all expectations. Usually, when a player is established at an IPL franchise, he is expected to lead his state in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, with respect to certain CSK cricketers, it is not the case. On that note, here, we take a look at three CSK players who are surprisingly not captains in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023.
1) Ruturaj Gaikwad – Maharashtra
Let alone being the most important batter at CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad led Team India recently at the Asian Games and even won the Gold Medal. Yet, he is not the skipper at Maharashtra, despite having led them well in the last edition.
Instead, it is veteran Kedar Jadhav who is captaining the side. It appears that Maharashtra wants one available leader for the entire season. Ruturaj surely will have India duties and hence, he might have not got the chance.
2) Deepak Chahar – Rajasthan
Deepak Chahar is one of the CSK players who is surprisingly not a captain in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023. With Ashok Menaria not captaining, ideally, it should have been another senior player who should have led the squad.
Deepak Hooda, the appointed skipper, is a senior. However, it needs to be noted that he recently changed his state from Baroda. Usually, such players who have switched states don’t get captaincy within two or three seasons. Hence, Deepak Chahar could have got the chance.
3) Subhranshu Senapati – Odisha
Odisha did not have Subhranshu as the skipper last season, as well. However, in the squad, he is the best batter and also has IPL experience.
This could have been used by making him as the captain. However, the management might have a different logic and hence, the batter has not got the chance. It needs to be noted that he had previously led the side.
