Team India have been dealt with a big blow after star cricketer KL Rahul confirmed that he will not take part in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 against Australia, which is scheduled to be held at The Kennington Oval in London on June 7 to June 11.

The Bengaluru-born cricketer sustained an injury while fielding against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the home fixture. He was taken off the field with the help of a physio and he didn’t step out to field again.

However, he showed some bravery by coming out to bat after the fall of 9th wicket. He faced three balls and didn’t score a run before the team lost to RCB. In his latest update on social media, he confirmed that he will be undergoing a thigh surgery.

He further added that he will be focusing on rehabilitation and recovery process in the coming weeks. With KL Rahul ruled out of the WTC Final 2023, let’s take a look at the two players who could replace him for the marquee tournament.

1. Suryakumar Yadav

As per the reports, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included Suryakumar Yadav in the stand-by list for the WTC Final against Australia. If it’s official, then the selectors would prefer him to sneak into the playing XI.

Suryakumar Yadav has played just one Test for India. He made his debut against Australia in the Nagpur Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series where he scored 8 runs in the only inning he has played. He scored 5557 runs in first-class cricket including 14 centuries and 28 fifties.

2. Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan is another name that the selectors would look to include him in the playing XI in place of KL Rahul. For the record, Sarfaraz Khan has already included in stand-by list.

In fact, a standby player is not part of the main squad but is expected to be called upon in case an opportunity arises. Sarfaraz Khan has long been waiting for the opportunity and he will be looking to grab it with bold hands if such chance arises. He scored 3505 runs in first-class cricket including 13 centuries and 9 fifties.
