India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup was announced on Tuesday. It was an interesting selection with the selectors not experimenting much. The playing XI selection is straightforward and hence, we might see a few players warm the bench for the entire tournament. Here, we take a look at two members of India’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup who might not get a game.

India Squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.

1) Axar Patel

Despite Axar Patel being available, he has not played a lot of ODIs in recent days. This is mainly due to the presence of Ravindra Jadeja, who is the first-choice spin-bowling all-rounder in the squad. Since Axar also offers similar attributes, he might not get a lot of matches.

India already has a dearth of variety. Hence, they might not play two spinners of the same type, unless there is an injury to someone. Only in that scenario would Axar get an opportunity to be a part of the upcoming ODI World Cup.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is one of the members of India’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup who might not get a game. When it comes to the pecking order for the spots in the middle-order, SKY is behind Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Hence, unless there is an injury or serious lack of form, Surya might not get a game in the upcoming World Cup.

SKY himself is yet to come to tune in ODIs. Hence, a lot of discussions would happen if he has to replace a player in the middle-order. Therefore, the T20 superstar is also on this list of players who might warm the bench.
