2 KKR players who have scored century in IPL history

Share the post

The Indian Premier League has seen innumerable centuries since its very conception. However, one particular team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, has not been very fortunate when it comes to producing centurions. It is indeed very ironic because the very first century in the IPL’s history was scored by a Kolkata Knight Riders player, and that too in the very first IPL match ever played.

In this match, we thus talk about the two players who scored centuries for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

#1 Brendon McCullum

The first ever IPL match was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 18, 2008, at the Eden Gardens. RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly came in to open the innings alongside Brendon McCullum.

While Dada departed early after scoring just 10 runs, McCullum was there for the long haul. He went on to score an unbeaten 158 in just 73 deliveries, scoring more than half of KKR’s total score. Thanks to him, KKR reached a sensational total of 222 runs and ended up winning the match by 140 runs. This is still said to be one of the best knocks in IPL history.

#2 Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer broke KKR’s centurion curse today in the 22nd match of the IPL 2023 between KKR and Mumbai Indians. He scored a sensational knock of 104 runs in just 51 deliveries and gave his side a tremendous boost in the first innings. Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Riley Meredith a little after scoring his century. Had he stayed on the pitch, KKR’s total would have easily gone past the 220 run mark.

He hit six fours and nine sixes in his knock. Venky has finally gotten his long-lost form back. After a terrible IPL 2022 season, it seems like he is back in form and is ready to rock in IPL 2023.
