AB de Villiers recently became a Hall of Famer of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the Indian Premier League. The former South African cricket team star was one of the top performers for the RCB franchise from 2011 to 2021. In those 11 seasons, he helped the Bangalore-based team win many matches.
The fans gave him a nickname of ‘Mr. 360’ because of his ability to smash the ball all around the park. The cricket universe was disappointed when AB de Villiers made the inevitable call to retire from the Indian Premier League ahead of the 2022 IPL Mega Auction.
Some members of the cricket universe felt that de Villiers could have played a few more seasons, but the RCB star decided to end his career. Almost two years have passed since his retirement, and it seems unlikely that the following records of de Villiers will ever be broken in the Indian Premier League.
1. AB de Villiers has won the highest Man of the Match awards for a franchise
Winning the Man of the Match award is the dream of every cricketer. In team sports, the player who performs the best in a game receives the Player of the Match award. In his legendary career, de Villiers won the award in 23 matches while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.
Some players do not even get a chance to play 23 matches for the same franchise. Hence, it looks unlikely that de Villiers’ record will ever be broken.
2. Most 50+ scores with a strike rate of more than 200
It is tough for any batter to score quick runs with consistency in a tournament like the IPL, where the world’s best players compete with each other. In such a tough competition, de Villiers managed to smash 13 scores of 50+ with a strike rate of more than 200. This record seems unbreakable as well.
