Picking up big wickets is the dream of every bowler who starts playing international cricket. Fans have often that the bowlers do not celebrate much when they take the wickets of the tailenders, but they are over the moon when they dismiss some top-order batters or the biggest match-winner of the opposition team. Virat Kohli belongs to that second category of batters.
The Indian star bats in the top-order and is the biggest match-winner for his nation across all three formats of the game. He has single-handedly won many matches for the Indian cricket team. Dismissing Virat Kohli is the aim of every bowler who plays against him in any format of the game.
To scalp Virat’s wicket once is a big thing for all the bowlers, but here’s a list of such two bowlers who managed to dismiss the star Indian batter four times in a single Test series.
1. Todd Murphy dismissed Virat Kohli 4 times in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series
Australia’s rookie spinner Todd Murphy received his maiden Test cap ahead of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. He made his debut in the Nagpur Test of the series, where he scalped seven wickets in the first innings. One of them was of Virat, whom he dismissed caught behind.
Later in the series, Murphy became the first bowler to dismiss Kohli stumped out in a Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He also trapped him in front of his stumps at the Holkar Cricket Stadium before dismissing him caught out at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the fourth Test.
2. James Anderson
The first bowler to pick up Kohli’s wicket four times in a single Test series was James Anderson. It happened during India’s tour of England in 2014. Anderson dismissed once at Lord’s and The Rose Bowl and then dismissed him twice in the Old Trafford Test match.
