Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has slammed Bangladesh Cricket Team for its poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2022. He said that had he been the captain of the team or the coach, he would have sent his players to see psychologists.

“Bangladesh have to blame themselves,” Wasim Akram criticises the Asian nation for its loss against Pakistan in the virtual quarter-final

Bangladesh suffered an early exit in the T20 World Cup 2022. They, however, had an open chance to qualify for the knockout stage but it’s fair to say that they only had themselves to blame as they displayed poor performance against Pakistan, in what was a virtual quarter-final.

After the Netherlands defeated South Africa, it opened up chances for both Bangladesh and Pakistan to make it into the semi-finals. But it was the Babar Azam-led side who stepped up on the occasion and set the stage on fire to qualify for the semi-finals.

But it’s fair to say that poor cricket by Bangladesh made it easy for them. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side was extremely poor with the bat as they managed just 127 runs, on what was a good batting pitch.

Only Najmul Hossain Shanto managed fifty but he perished right after scoring the half-century. Rest all the batters failed to cross the 25-run mark and were bundled out for a low total, which Pakistan chased in 18.1 overs.

Following their loss, they faced a lot of criticism for their performance. Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram too lashed out at them for their poor outing and said that gifted their wickets. Speaking on A Sports show ‘The Pavilion’, he said:

“Bangladesh have to blame themselves. They should. If I was the captain of the Bangladesh team or the coach of Bangladesh team, I will make sure these guys will see psychologists. Because at one stage, Shanto was on 54 and things were going well then.

“They were 73 for 2 and I thought they’ll get to 160. But then Shanto stepped out and played a weird shot off Iftikhar and was bowled. If you had kept on taking singles, the score would have reached 155 comfortably.”

Wasim Akram criticises Bangladesh for taking a risk against Shaheen Afridi

Shaheen Afridi was at his best in the game against Bangladesh. He took his career-best figures in that match and looked threatening. However, instead of tacking him, Bangladesh tried to take him to cleaners but their plan didn’t pay off.

Akram also talked about the same and said: “In an international level, when you see a certain bowler was coming to bowl and you know that the opposition captain has brought him to take wickets, that’s where you don’t play a shot. You try to rotate the strike in that particular over but the Bangladesh players made up their minds to hit him and hit Shaheen only.”
