WI vs IND 2022: On Monday, August 1, the West Indies and India squared off in the second Twenty20 International match at Warner Park in St. Kitts. Nicholas Pooran, the captain of the West Indies, won the toss and elected to have India bat first. The pace bowler Avesh Khan came in to replace the spinner Ravi Bishnoi as India made their lone substitution.

Due to the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, India has experimented with several different opening combinations in this format during the course of this year. Ahead of the game, Rohit remarked that the team wants the batters to be able to bat in any order and be adaptable with the lineup. He was referring to the alterations that have been made in the batting positions.

WI vs IND 2022: What did Rohit Sharma say?

At the toss, Rohit remarked, “We want the boys to be able to bat everywhere and don’t want them to be batting in set places. We want the men to be flexible, there are two ways to look at it based on particular individuals,” he continued.

Before the commencement of the home T20I series against South Africa in June, Rahul, one of India’s regular openers across all formats, has been sidelined with a groin ailment and is not available for selection for the squad. In the Twenty20 International series that took place in England in July, Rohit and Rishabh Pant opened the batting for India, while Suryakumar Yadav batted in the middle order.

However, Rohit and Suryakumar began batting for India against the West Indies in the first Twenty20 International, and they did so in the second Twenty20 International. During the first game, the opening stand scored 44 runs until Suryakumar was removed for 24 runs off 16 balls in the fifth over. On the other side, Rohit was the player who scored the most runs, with 64 coming off of 44 balls.

However, in the 2nd T20I, the opening partnership lasted for only one ball, as Rohit lost his wicket in the very first ball. India could manage to score only 138 runs. West Indies chased down the score with 4 balls to spare.
