Royal Challengers Bangalore Women ran through a torrid start in the ongoing edition of the Women’s Premier League. Led by Smriti Mandhana, RCB Women failed to find a way to come out on top in the first four games.
As a result, RCB Women became the first team to lose four games on the trot. Despite having superstars like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight and others at their disposal, they lacked the killer instinct to win games.
However, they breathed a sigh of relief after they eventually opened their account with a win this season. RCB Women got the better of UP Warriorz in the recently-concluded game by five wickets at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
Batting first, UP Warriorz posted 135 with the help of Grace Harris’ 46 off 32 balls. Ellyse Perry was the pick of the bowlers for RCB Women as she registered 3/16 in 4 overs. In response, RCB Women chased down the target in 18 overs. Kanika Ahuja top-scored with 46 off 30 balls including eight fours and a six.
Virat Kohli’s chat and support helped RCB Women a lot: Ellyse Perry
Meanwhile, RCB’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry reserved the highest respect for former RCB captain Virat Kohli by adding that the latter’s passion for the game is so amazing.
She further echoed that Virat Kohli’s chat and support in the need of the hour helped RCB Women a lot. RCB Women still have a slim chance of making it to the playoffs in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League.
RCB Women will have to win the remaining two games and would hope that other results go in their way. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will be looking forward to the first ODI against Australia which will kick off on March 17, Friday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will be quite interesting to see which team takes the first lead in the series.
