Share the post

Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are two great cricketers that the game has seen. After the first few years with Team India, everyone started comparing Virat with Sachin. However, a few years in poor form has meant that Virat might not go past Sachin in most of the records. Nevertheless, there are a few records in which Virat can race ahead of Sachin Tendulkar to sit at No.1. On that note, here, we take a look at two records of Sachin Tendulkar that Virat Kohli might break before he retires.

1) Fastest to 14000 ODI runs (350 Innings)

Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record for being the fastest batter to score 14000 ODI runs. He did it in 350 innings while Kumar Sangakkara, who sits at No.2, did it in 378 innings.

On the other hand, as of March 19th, 2023, Virat Kohli has 12813 runs in 272 innings. It is quite possible that Virat would score around 1000 more runs in ODI cricket. If that happens, he would surely be getting there before 350 innings and hence, he would gain a handsome lead in this record.

2) Most ODI centuries (49)

Scoring the most ODI centuries is one of the records of Sachin Tendulkar which Virat Kohli might break before he retires. This will be the record that Virat Kohli will target the most before he retires.

Till now, no one has touched the 50-centuries mark in ODIs. In the future, too, it would be hard to get it because not many ODIs are played. In this regard, Virat could permanently etch his name in the history books by becoming the first batter to score 50 centuries. With this, he would also go past Sachin Tendulkar, who finished his career with 49 centuries in ODI cricket. At the moment, the former India skipper has 46 centuries. He is sure to play a few more months of ODI cricket, if not for years. Hence, this target is achievable for him.
