Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was one of the integral parts of national cricket history. It is also worth mentioning here that Gambhir was the hero of two World Cup finals as he played two significant knocks.
Gambhir led the batting attack by example as he scored a match-winning 74 off 54 balls against Pakistan wherein he composed his innings with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 138.89.
Apart from that, he also led the attack in the finals of the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011 against Sri Lanka. When India lost Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag for cheap scores, India were under immense pressure from the start.
Needless to say, Gambhir composed his innings with calmness and fortitude as he scored a match-winning 97 against the Lankans. He smashed a flurry of nine boundaries in his knock which helped Team India set up a rock-solid foundation in the run-chase.
Kris Srikkanth said Virat Kohli will emulate Gautam Gambhir’s heroics in the 2023 ODI World Cup
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Kris Srikkanth, while speaking to Star Sports, reckons that Virat Kohli will emulate Gautam Gambhir’s heroics in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
For the first time ever, the ODI World Cup will be held entirely in India in the October-November window. India will surely enter the tournament as the clear-cut favourites, given that they are well aware of the home conditions better than any other team.
However, it is more important for the players to step up and deliver the work rate in the best possible manner in order to get the best results. The last time when India won the ODI World Cup was back in 2011 and since then, they haven’t made their bid for the third accolade.
Virat Kohli recently scored his 44th ODI century in the third ODI against Bangladesh. He will be back in the business for the three-match ODI series against the Sri Lankan cricket team on January 10 in Guwahati.
