Former Pakistani skipper Inzamam Ul Haq feels that the Indian top order needs to take more responsibility for results to come in their favor. He said that either India skipper Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul should’ve played big innings against Pakistan.
“Top three of the Indian batting unit needs to take responsibility,” says Inzamam Ul Haq
Indian Cricket Team has invited a lot of criticism following their defeat against Pakistan in the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2022. While many have slammed the Men in Blue for the poor selection, few lashed out at the senior players for the poor performance.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took their team off the flyer as they took Pakistani bowlers to the cleaners. They scored 54 runs for the opening partnership but they both fell for 28 runs at a crucial stage, which stopped the momentum of the Indian innings.

Although Virat Kohli played a sensational inning of 60 runs he also was back in the hut at the crucial stage and his dismissal cost India 10-15 runs short.
Inzamam Ul Haq highlighted that India’s success in the tournaments depends on how the top-order performs. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Either one of KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma should have played a big inning. Until and unless the senior player takes responsibility, results won’t come, we have seen this in previous tournaments as well. So, the top three of the Indian batting unit needs to take responsibility.”
Inzamam Ul Haq says India should’ve scored over 200 runs against Pakistan
With the kind of start India got, many expected them to score over 200 runs. After the Indian openers got out, momentum shifted towards Pakistan. Kohli tried his best but he fell short of partners and India managed just around 180 runs.
Inzamam criticized the Indian middle order for not making the most of the opportunity. He said:
“Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli played so well and provided the perfect platform, but the rest of the batters could not make the most of it. They should have scored over 200.”

Chasing the target of 182 runs, Pakistan lost wicket at regular interviews but a 73-run stand for the third wicket between Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (42), who was promoted up the order tilted the game in Pakistan’s favor, and eventually it turned out to be a 5-wicket win for the Men in Green.
