Two possible opening combinations that KKR may try in IPL 2023

After a glittering run in 2021, KKR stumbled face first onto the ground as a few of their major performers failed to deliver and things spiraled out of hands. With a flurry of new players in the mix, they will try and change the equation.

Their opening pair was a serious question mark in the preceding year as they drifted in and out of form and somehow Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion made no sense whatsoever as he failed to deliver at the high potential that is usually needed in a T20 fixture.

However, things can change this year around as a host of new faces come into the mix and they can be real game-changers to rotate things around in the most positive fashion. Here are two possible opening combinations for KKR.

#1 Litton Das and Rahmanullah Gurbaz

The Bangladeshi opener has shown some exceptional heat with the blade of late and ever since his showdown against India in the T20 World Cup propelled him to the highest regards, he became somewhat of a focal point for the teams that were next in line. He is a fearless and hard-hitting opener and can change the game almost single handedly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz is an explosive opener and the woes during KKR’s powerplays can be snuffed out if the Afghan wicket-keeping batter can come to life with his almighty hitting skills.

#2 Venkatesh Iyer and Narayan Jagadeesan

Venkatesh Iyer didn’t really click in the preceding edition but he can be crucial to any given side in the world and the fact that he still remains in the hunt and almost single handedly lifted KKR from the Rock bottom and propelled them to the grand finale of 2021 spoke volumes about his character. Narayan Jagadeesan is an extremely talented middle order batter and believe this or not but if he gets himself in, what follows thereafter is carnage of the highest amount. Ideally, these two will also allow KKR to play additional foreigners in other departments particularly with the likes of Lockie Ferguson in the fold.
