Irani Trophy 2023 will start on October 1st. The Rest of India’s opponents would be Saurashtra. It is always interesting to see the kind of squad that gets selected for ROI. Mostly, it is a mix of performers from the previous season in addition to youngsters with potential. In the process, a few players have to miss out on the squad. Here, we take a look at the list of three players unlucky to miss the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy 2023.

1) Jalaj Saxena – 50 wickets in 7 games

Jalaj Saxena has missed a series of events in recent months. Be it the Deodhar Trophy or the other zone-based events, Jalaj has got a rough hand. This is despite him picking 50 wickets in the last season, thereby ending as the highest wicket-taker.

It might have to do with his age. He is 36 and unlikely to play for India. Hence, someone like Pulkit Narang has got an opportunity.

2) Anustup Majumdar – 867 runs in 10 games

Anustup Majumdar is one of the players unlucky to miss the Rest of India squad for the Irani Trophy 2023. Like Jalaj, it is the age that has denied the West Bengal cricketer a chance.

He is 39 years old and might not be at his best of abilities in the coming months. Hence, ROI has included the likes of Yash Dhull, although they did not enjoy a great campaign last season.

3) Abhimanyu Easwaran – 798 runs in 8 games

It is surprising that the West Bengal batter is not in the mix for the Rest of India. It appears that the bus may have moved past him.

Abhimanyu is one of the most consistent batters of our time in the Ranji Trophy. It is unfortunate that he is yet to play for India. The likes of Sai Sudharsan being preferred shows the direction the Test Team might be heading.
