Royal Challengers Bangalore began their IPL 2023 campaign with a superb win over Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians in their first game at their fortress, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Faf du Plessis and Co got the better of Mumbai Indians by eight wickets and announced their arrival in style. However, the tables turned totally opposite when they locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders.
The two-time IPL champions failed to bring the best out of themselves till 12 overs before Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh changed the entire complexion of the game at the best scene.
The duo constructed a 103-run partnership which helped KKR post 204/7 in 20 overs. In response, RCB totally crumbled in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 123 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders who lost their opening game to Punjab Kings went on to win the second game by 82 runs. Shardul Thakur who scored a quickfire 62 was adjudged the player of the match.
