Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous edition of the IPL. They had a chance to make it to the playoffs but they let the opportunity slip away from their hands.

As a result, they finished fifth on the table with eight wins and six defeats in the league stage. Delhi Capitals already met with a big blow to their title hopes after their regular skipper Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the entire season.

Rishabh Pant met with a career-threatening accident while he was travelling all alone in his car on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. He travelled early morning in the car only to see his family members for a surprise visit.

As it turned out, he rammed into one of the divider linings wherein he lost control of the car completely, which led to an accident. He sought proper treatment, scans and medical assistance from the surgeons.

Abhishek Porel set to replace Rishabh Pant in Delhi Capitals for IPL 2023

Meanwhile, in the latest update, a replacement for Rishabh Pant has finally been announced. According to a source from PTI, Abhishek Porel is set to replace Rishabh Pant for the next season.

Abhishek Porel operates as a left-handed batter and can also keep wickets. The 20-year-old cricketer from Bengal made his domestic debut the last season and it is indeed a good opportunity for him to prove his worth.

Right now, Rishabh is taking the much-needed rest so that he can be back in competitive action in the near future. Earlier, Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket Operations at Delhi Capitals confirmed that Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the entire season.

Delhi Capitals have named David Warner as the captain for the upcoming season. David Warner already has a plethora of experience playing in the IPL. He also led Sunrisers Hyderabad to a maiden IPL glory.
