Fans on Twitter reacted hilariously as Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul said that the strike rate is overrated and it depends on the demand of the game. They took a jibe at the batter and said that when he’s playing the demand is playing first over the maiden.
“Strike rate is overrated. It depends on the demand, if you chase 140, you need not to go with a 200 strike rate,” says KL Rahul
There’s no denying the fact that the T20 format demands batters to go after the bowling right from ball 1 and express themselves but in recent years, due to strategic adjustments, many openers have developed a pattern of opting conservative approach at first and then go after the bowlers once they assess the pitch.
If we talk about KL Rahul, the batter of late has been criticised a lot for his poor strike rate in the shortest format of the game. He has been under the firing line for his consistent failures batting at the top of the order of late. Not only the runs have dried up for him but he also has batted with a poor strike rate.
He was last seen in action for India in T20Is during the T20 World Cup 2022. It was a forgettable tournament for him as he failed drastically and batted with an extremely poor strike rate. Since then he hasn’t played any T20Is for the team as he was not considered.
Since the past few seasons in IPL, Rahul has been scoring truckloads of runs. But what has come under is his strike rate. It’s fair to say that he hasn’t utilised power play well and has batted with a low strike rate, which eventually at some stage has hampered his side’s chances.
However, Rahul himself has opened up about the strike rate issue. He said that “Strike rate is overrated. It depends on the demand, if you chase 140, you need not to go with 200 strike rate, it depends upon the current situation”.
