Franchises are very conscious of over-spending on players, especially in Mega Auctions. These years, uncapped players have started doing well and not all focus might be on the capped ones. Hence, even if someone has played for India, if he does not add value for the salary, he might not be considered. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three capped Indians who must reduce their base price or they could be unsold in IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Devdutt Padikkal
The Karnataka batter had a horrible run in IPL 2024. After getting traded from Rajasthan Royals to LSG, many expected DDP to do well at the top of the order.
He got many games at No.3 but could not deliver. He was then dropped from the XI. His base price was INR 2 Cr at IPL 2022 Auctions. If Devdutt Padikkal has the same base price, teams might not look at him in the first round.
2) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur is one of the capped Indians who must reduce their base price or they could be unsold in IPL 2025 Auctions. He did well in patches in IPL 2024 but as a T20 cricketer, Shardul Thakur has a lot more to provide.
At this stage, neither his bowling nor his batting can be considered as his strongest in the T20 format. This is a difficult situation to be in. If his base price is not low, teams might not consider him.
3) Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is yet to announce his retirement. He is someone who can provide at least one more year in the IPL. Teams could be interested in his experience and his mentorship later on.
However, they might not pick him if the base price is INR 2 Cr. If he gets a chance to reduce his base price, Dhawan must go ahead and do it. This way, he has an opportunity to land another IPL contract.
