Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra heaped rich praise on Indian batter Virat Kohli for his knock against Pakistan. Calling his innings vintage, the former cricketer also highlighted the six he hit to reach his half-century.

“We saw vintage Virat after a long time,” Aakash Chopra on Kohli’s innings

Although India lost the match, one of the biggest positives for them was Virat Kohli’s return to form. The former Indian skipper after having two decent outings in the first two games continued his red-hot form and smashed his second consecutive half-century of the tournament.

After India lost wickets in quick succession in the middle overs, Kohli held the one end and along with ticking the scorecard slowly he also punished bad balls. When the Rohit Sharma-led side lost wickets in the middle, it didn’t seem that they would go past 180 runs.

But thanks to Kohli, who scored 60 runs in 44 balls and helped his side post a total of 180 runs on the board. Notably, the right-hander reached his fifty with a six and also gained a lot of praise for his innings. Notably, the 33-year-old is also the leading run-getter in the tournament with 154 runs to his name from three games.

Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra also lavished rich praise on the former Indian skipper. He said:

“Kohli scored a half-century. Virat Kohli is back it seems. We saw vintage Virat after a long time. He scored 60 runs off 44 balls, which included four fours and a six. That six was actually a beautiful shot.”

Aakash Chopra was disappointed with Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda failing to end the innings on high

It’s fair to say that Kohli was the lone warrior for his side as his innings pushed India to a fighting total of 181 runs. Many expected Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda to support him and take India’s total to over 200 runs. But this wasn’t the case as they both failed to score runs and put India under pressure.

Chopra said that although Kohli’s innings were good, Hardik failed to replicate the heroics which he did in the group clash against Pakistan. He remarked:

“His knock was very good, Deepak Hooda also played, Hardik Pandya didn’t open his account. Cricket is a great leveler, you are on top one day and right at the bottom on the next day.”
