“Selectors should make an exception”, Popular Journalist Feels Virat Kohli Must Lead India For One Last Time In England
After the conclusion of the ongoing assignment against West India, India will next focus on Sri Lanka. The new Test captain will be announced ahead of the Test series. However, a popular journalist has opined that former skipper Virat Kohli must lead India for one last time in England this year.
Virat Kohli must lead India for one last time
After India lost the South Africa Test series, Virat Kohli announced his decision to give up Test captaincy. Under him, India enjoyed great success in the five-day format. One of Virat’s best performances as a Test captain was in England last year. He had helped India lead 2-1 against England before the fifth Test got cancelled due to a COVID outbreak. While India won the games at the Lord’s and Oval, the Leeds Test had ended in a loss. The last game at Manchester got called off after a few cases came up in the Indian camp.
Now, the last match is all set to happen at Birmingham from July 1st this year. Noted journalist K Shriniwas Rao has suggested that BCCI should approach Virat Kohli to lead India in the game. Considering India is on the brink of a historic series win, the journalist felt that Virat had to be at the helm since he was very important for the result.
After Tests against SL, India have a one-off Test pending in England to wrap up last year's series.

Years down the line, we must remember the series for what it was meant to be. : )

India to announce the Test captain soon
Meanwhile, the stage is set for BCCI to announce the next Test captain for Team India. The two names that are closely associated with the post are KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. With the Sri Lanka series starting soon, the management will announce the decision regarding the same shortly.
Considering the standards that Virat Kohli had set, it will be hard for anyone coming in to match the former captain. The World Test Championship is on the line and this will further add pressure to the new captain. Hence, the upcoming few months will be interesting in regard to Team India.
