Indian captain Rohit Sharma is the best opening batter in the world, without a shadow of any doubt. He kick-started his cricketing career as a middle-order batsman because of stiff competition in the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma was a youngster at that time as the Indian selection committee relied on senior opening pair Virender Sehwag-Sachin Tendulkar or Virender Sehwag-Gautam Gambhir to open the innings for the national cricket team.

Rohit Sharma was often overshadowed by the selectors during the initial years of his career. He was in and out of the cricketing set-up and even though he was part of the line-up, he hardly got chances to bat.

In fact, he unleashed his true colours once the Indian team management decided to play him as an opener and the rest is history. Little did the onlookers know that he would go on to become the best opener across three formats.

The Indian team management realized that Rohit Sharma is a brilliant stroker-maker and is someone who can play pull shots and other shots quite well. The board took the gamble and the move paid off, there was no turning back since then for Rohit.
