India’s run-scoring machine Virat Kohli etched his name into the record books after he went past legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record in terms of most ODI centuries scored against the Sri Lankan cricket team.
India’s batting great, Sachin Tendulkar has slammed eight ODI centuries against Sri Lanka during the playing days of his cricketing career. Meanwhile, during the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli smashed his 45th ODI century.
It is also worth mentioning here that Virat Kohli slammed his ninth ODI century against the Lankans. Moreover, it is also the most by any batter against Sri Lanka in the history of One-Day Internationals.
Virat Kohli has scored nine ODI centuries against Sri Lanka and West Indies
For the record, Virat Kohli also has scored nine ODI centuries against the West Indies, which is quite a stupendous feat. The world-class batsman is not far away from surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 ODI centuries.
Taking Kohli’s form and fitness factors into account, one can firmly say that he is destined for greatness. India will be playing more ODIs this year and if things go well, Kohli would go on to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Earlier, Virat Kohli was out of form as he didn’t score a century in international cricket for close to three years. However, he ended his century drought by scoring his maiden T20I century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament.
After that, he went on to end the ODI century drought as he scored his 44th ODI century against Bangladesh after 40 months. During the ODI series opener against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored his 45th ODI century.
On the other hand, even the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar has scored nine ODI centuries against a single opposition. The Indian batting great slammed nine ODI centuries against Australia in his cricketing career.
